13 A-List Stars Who've Done Horror... More Than Once
Article By: Tyler Doupe
We hear a lot about stars that began their career in horror but it’s less common to see features profiling actors and actresses that have appeared in more than one horror picture. To remedy that, we are taking a look at celebrities that have appeared in multiple (for our purposes, two or more) horror films throughout the course of their career. Read on for 13 prominent celebs that have delved into the world of genre film on more than one occasion. Be sure to let us know your thoughts on our Facebook page.
1. Brad Pitt
A-lister Brad Pitt has made a name for himself appearing in a number of dramatic roles but he has also made multiple appearances in both genre film and television. He starred in Cutting Class early in his career and headlined World War Z much more recently. Pitt also popped up on an episode of the television series Freddy’s Nightmares and is attached to the long-awaited sequel to the zombie epic World War Z.
2. Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey has been enjoying something of a career resurgence in the past couple of years, with prominent roles in both film and television. However, he is no stranger to the horror genre. Early on, he appeared in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and he took on a lead role in the horror-thriller Frailty in 2001. McConaughey is also gearing up to appear in the forthcoming feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s fantasy-horror hybrid The Dark Tower alongside Idris Elba.
3. George Clooney
While he has mainly risen to prominence via more dramatic film and television roles, two-time recipient of People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ award George Clooney has also popped up in several horror genre titles. And he eventually he landed a starring role in the Robert Rodriguez picture From Dusk till Dawn.
4. Naomi Watts
The former Mrs. Liev Schreiber has worked steadily since arriving on the Hollywood scene in the early ‘90s. And while fans of mainstream cinema may better know her for her appearance in David Lynch’s twisted thriller Mulholland Drive, she has also popped up in a rather impressive number of horror films. Ms. Watts’s genre film résumé includes roles in Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering, The Shaft, The Ring, The Ring Two, Shut In, Dream House, and Funny Games. Yet she did not appear in this year's threequel, Rings.
5. Kevin Bacon
Although he may not be widely known for his work in the horror genre, Kevin Bacon’s contributions are numerous and noteworthy. Not only did he appear in Friday the 13th, which is one of the most beloved slasher pictures of all time. He also starred in the highly regarded horror comedy/cult classic Tremors. Moreover, he also popped up in Flatliners, Stir of Echoes, and The Darkness. He also starred on Fox’s The Following for three seasons.
6. Viggo Mortensen
Viggo Mortensen has a reputation as a very serious and selective actor. But that didn’t stop him from appearing in a trio of horror movies throughout the ‘90s that included Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, The Prophecy, and Gus Van Sant’s misguided remake of Psycho. Judging by the way his career has exploded since the ‘90s, it’s not entirely likely that we will see him in a proper horror film again anytime soon.
7. Chloe Grace Moretz
Rising young talent and Hollywood ‘It Girl’ Chloe Grace Moretz is taking the world by storm and even making a point to set a good example for the legions of young women that look up to her as a role model. In addition to high-profile roles in several mega-budget releases, Moretz has also appeared in horror fare like The Amityville Horror, Let Me in, Room 6, Wicked Little Things, Hallowed Ground, The Eye, Dark Shadows, and Carrie. Not to mention, she is also attached to the long-gestating remake of Dario Argento’s seminal classic Suspiria.
8. Abigail Breslin
Abigail Breslin is already a Hollywood veteran and she’s barely old enough to vote. Her breakout role came via the indie comedy Little Miss Sunshine. But she has also made significant contributions to the horror genre that include appearances in the likes of Signs, Maggie, The Call, Haunter, Zombieland, Fear Inc., and the quasi horror film Final Girl.

Swank can be seen in the horror films Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Reaping, The Gift, and Sometimes They Come Back Again.
10. Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba developed a large fan following with her starring role on the TV series Dark Angel. And she continues to grow in popularity to this day. She has appeared in feature films and television roles across all genres but some of our favorite memories of her are from the times she has turned up in darker fare. Alba’s genre film credits include: Idle Hands, Paranoid, The Eye, Machete, Machete Kills, and The Veil.
11. Jennifer Connelly
Perhaps most fondly remembered by my generation for her starring role in Labyrinth, Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly has also popped up in several horror films over the course of her lengthy career. Thomas Jane has enjoyed an acting career that spans both feature film and television. He is nothing if not versatile. He has played everything from The Punisher to a schoolteacher turned prostitute. But the roles that we most fondly remember Jane for are his appearances in horror flicks. Like several other stars on this list, Thomas Jane had a small role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And he also appeared in The Crow: City of Angels, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher, The Mist, The Veil, and most recently Mike Flanagan’s Before I Wake.
13. Patricia Arquette
As the star of the sometimes-scary television series Medium, Patricia Arquette dealt with the supernatural on the regular. But that was far from her first venture into that realm. Prior to her most famous television role, Arquette had already appeared in horror titles like A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, Nightwatch, and Stigmata.
